Park Details:
Harpers Ferry's history has a few parallels in the American drama. By mid-19th century, Harpers Ferry contained 3,000 inhavitants and had become an important arms-producing center and transportation link between east and west. John Brown's raid in 1859 and the Civil War thrust the town into national prominence. Stonewall Jackson catured 12,500 Union troops here in 1862, which was the largest surrender of Union troops in the Civil War. Following the war, Frederick Doublass served as a trustee of Storer College.
