Park Details:
In the spring of 1864, after failing to defeat Gen. Robert E. Lee's army and capture Richmond, General Ulysses S. Grand moved his army across the James River and attacked Petersburg. A 9 and a half month siege resulted, ending when the supploy lines to Lee's Army and Richmond were cut off.
